Daniel Shapiro is highly acclaimed as a pianist and as a pedagogue at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He is especially noted as an interpreter of Brahms, Schubert and Beethoven: he has given three complete cycles of the Beethoven piano sonatas, and his recording of the “Diabelli” Variations received enthusiastic reviews. He has performed extensively in the US, Europe, and Asia. He is also a conductor and frequent chamber musician—he has performed with several of the world’s leading string and wind soloists–and has coached and accompanied art song. A native of southern California, he studied with John Perry, Leon Fleisher, Joanna Graudan and Russell Sherman. He currently resides in the Cleveland area with his wife and three children, and is also an expert Scrabble player.
